Jennifer A. Cooper, MA, LCMHC, NCC
Counselor/Play Therapist

It is a privilege to be a resource for families in the University area of Charlotte, and I look forward to teaming up with you and your child to overcome challenges.  My mission is to help my clients discover opportunities for personal growth.  I believe strongly that the relationship between the counselor and client is a catalyst for change.  To that end, I will facilitate a trusting relationship to enable my clients to explore their experiences, gain self-understanding, develop healthy relationships and build on their individual strengths.

I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling (MA) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor  (LCMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).  As such, I am able to counsel adults, children, couples, and families.  I have specialized training in, and a passion for, working with children.  In addition to my Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Boston University and years of teaching experience, I completed a Certificate in Play Therapy from UNCC.  I have also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and have experience with facilitating Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT).

My approach to therapy is collaborative, which means that my clients can, and should, determine their own goals of counseling.  We will then work together toward those goals through a variety of modalities, including but not limited to: talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, play therapy, and CPRT.  It is my firm belief that incorporating parents/family into therapy leads to greater benefits.  I will provide support and consultation to parents throughout their child’s therapeutic process.
